A CHARISMATIC and generous father who was “a true inspiration” has died aged 47 after battling cancer.

David Green was diagnosed more than three years ago and after a brave battle, he died on October 26 at his home.

His daughter, Skye Patterson, said: “We would describe dad as a hard-working family man who enjoyed the outdoors. He would make the best dinners and tell the worst jokes.

“We could always turn to him if we needed advice on life. Dad would still continue to give advice even if we didn’t end up taking it. He was also charismatic and generous.”

His sister Julie said: “In the last few months of my brother’s life he showed such bravery and courage. I used to visit him regularly with my husband and all he wanted was for us to act normally around him.

“He wanted to hear what we had been up to and always asked how our kids were. He was a true inspiration.”

David will be forever remembered as a loving son, husband, father and grandfather.

David started his own building company, David Green Property Services, ten years ago. He learnt his trade from his father, Jim.

He was born on January 1, 1971, in Brighton and had lived in the city for his whole life. He had two brothers, Michael and Terry, and three sisters Julie, Jackie and Angie. He attended Bevendean Primary School and Falmer High School where he enjoyed school more for friends and fun rather than academically.

David was the fourth child in the family, so he had always looked up to his two brothers, but he was also very close to his three sisters.

His siblings said he was a good listener, family-orientated and completely selfless.

His parents had often recalled how he was always up to mischief but because he was also very cheeky he could get away with it.

He went to work with his father as a builder, he was talented in painting and decorating. David went on to work with his brothers before starting up his own business.

He married his wife Gina when he was 22 and she was 24. She works as a ward hostess supervisor for a private hospital. They got married in 2008 at St Margaret’s in Rottingdean and had their honeymoon in Menorca.

They had three children, Skye, Tyler and Katy.

David enjoyed golf, fishing and cooking. He taught his children how to make “the best gravy” and Yorkshire pudding. He would spend all his free time with his family.
