A REVIEW is taking place into residents’ parking schemes introduced in October last year.

People in Hanover and Elm Grove in Brighton are being invited to give their views on the Zone S and Zone V projects.

The area was previously a popular parking spot for commuters and was dubbed Brighton’s “largest free car park”.

Residents rejected a parking scheme seven years earlier but the latest consultation found 60 per cent of residents in favour.

The council said it now wanted “to ensure a fair balance is being achieved between the needs of residents, businesses and visitors”.

Brighton and Hove city councillor Gill Mitchell said: “When we introduced the Zone S and Zone V parking schemes in Hanover and Elm Grove in 2017, we committed to reviewing them to ensure that they were balancing the needs of residents, businesses and visitors.

“Through this review, we want residents in the scheme boundaries to give us their views on how the schemes have been working so that we can assess whether further changes need to be made.”

Residents can have their say on any changes they want introduced.

This includes whether the parking schemes are working in terms of the times, whether the type of bays provided are suitable and how the different types of permits are working.

If support is shown for potential changes to the schemes, the council will issue a further consultation.

Any other citywide policies requested would need to be considered in the forthcoming permit parking review, which starts in April next year.

Residents who live within the Zone S and Zone V boundaries should receive a letter and hard copy questionnaire to complete and return.

They can also access the survey online at https://www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/hanover-and-elmgrove-review.

Back in 2017, the council described the project as “a light touch parking scheme”. It warned if there were more applications than permit allocations, a waiting list would be created.
