A supermarket chain is hoping to draw new customers with their new giant avocados.

A favourite among the British public, the bigger incarnation of the creamy green fruit is available in Asda now.

Giant avocados are about three times larger than their smaller siblings

and have roughly 20 per cent more flesh.

They cost £1.60 and are available in Asda’s Brighton stores now.

The fruit – which is commonly mistaken for a vegetable – is grown in the soils of Argentina and can weigh anything from 480 to 670 grams.

Nasir Ahmed, Asda avocado technologist, said: “We’re excited to be introducing the biggest avos on the market, and hope the nation continues spreading, smashing and slicing, as avocados continue taking the world – and brunch – by storm.”

If you thought this news couldn’t get any better, think again.

Asda said its giant avocados change skin colour when at perfect eating quality, starting as bottle green and turning a deep purple-black when ripe and ready to eat.

Their larger size means they last longer than your average avocado.

Avocado sales in the UK have almost tripled in the last three years, with

more than 6,000 of them sold every hour across the country.
