YOUNGSTERS at a Devizes infant school were told to arrive in their pyjamas on Monday but not given the reason why.

They arrived at Devizes Infants to find headteacher Caroline Jackson at the gates wearing a station master's uniform ready to take them on a journey of discovery aboard The Polar Express.

Teacher Ed O'Reilly said: "All of our 154 pupils were involved. We have been learning about The Polar Express as part of our topic this term. They were greeted by Mrs Jackson and were given a special golden ticket to take them into different activities.

"In the afternoon they watched the film and eat biscuits they had baked. All of the children were thrilled by the day."

At the end of the afternoon the youngsters were given a Christmas bell from the tree in the hall to echo the theme of the film which says if you don't hear the bell you don't believe.

Mr O'Reilly said: "This also ties in with work we will be doing about children going on their own journeys and having to believe in themselves to succeed."
