A SINKHOLE the size of a football opened up in a quiet residential street today.
The foot-wide hole was found in Homefield Road, Worthing.
Paul Abbott from public safety group NSL used cones to cordoned-off the area.
He said he was concerned that the sinkhole could pose a danger to road-users.
He said: “The surface hole is only around the size of a football, however it may have caused trouble for bikes and motorbikes.
“It was the fact that the hole is not straight down, it heads east under the road, that had me worried.”
He was also concerned that the hole had running water entering it.
West Sussex County Council said: “We are aware of this and it has been made safe for the public.”
