A DRIVER who tried to blame someone else for his speeding offence has been given a six month suspended sentence.

Benjamin Ludlow, 43, had been driving his wife’s black Audi A6 at 92mph on the A23 at Bolney in 2017.

The prosecution letter was issued to his wife at their address at Manor Road, Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, who then passed it on to Ludlow.

Ludlow then returned the letter to the police, blaming a woman from London who he said borrowed the car.

Investigators found he had lied after checking CCTV of the incident.

Ludlow subsequently admitted to lying and and added that he had passed the papers to an associate in London, who told him he could make the offence “disappear”.

Ludlow pleaded guilty to the offence of perverting the course of justice at Lewes Crown Court and was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, suspended for 18 months.

He was also ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge.

The investigation was launched as part of Operation Pinocchio – an ongoing operation set up by Sussex Police in 2016 which aims to improve safety on Sussex’s roads.
