Derelict buildings went up in flames in Southwick causing road closures on the A259.
The East Sussex Fire and Rescue were called to the scene at 8.40pm to help tackle the fire in Kingston Lane, Southwick.
Six fire engines are dealing with a blaze in four derelict terrace houses.
Mark Todd of East Sussex Fire and Rescue said: "We still have four fire engines at the scene helping with the fire.
"It is under control and the fire is steadily going out.
"I understand there were no persons involved in the fire and the ambulance service were not needed."
A spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue service said: "We were called at 8.40pm this evening to a fire in Kingston Lane, Southwick.
"Four of our fire engines are at the scene using jets to extinguish the fire.
"The crew attended the scene very quickly.
"No breathing apparatus was needed because it was only derelict buildings on fire. No persons were affected by the fire."
Both fire services say the fire is under control.
