1. Leave the car park, walk past the Countryside Centre and cross over the A264 by a footbridge.

Head to Douster Pond to see the turreted waterfall, ignoring two paths on the left, initially.

Then return a few paces and take the track behind the boat house and go down the eastern side of the pond.

This is the blue route.

Turn right at a sign pointing to a dog dip area and go across a causeway separating Douster and Island Ponds.

On the far side take the path that starts on the left where the blue route continues around the first pond.

Proceed for quarter of a mile through Middle Covert to reach a public footpath.

At this point there is an option to walk an additional half mile by taking the path a few yards north on the left for a circular route through the plantation of Buchan Hill Forest, shown on the park’s Trail Guide.

2. Otherwise turn left along the footpath, keeping right at a marker post and through a missing squeeze gate and out across Cottesmore Golf Course.

Beware of golf balls from the left and the right, so proceed with caution.

Where the clubhouse can be seen clearly on the right the footpath joins a concrete road.

Walk along this road for a mile to a point where there is a junction with a golf track on the left.

Take this track that is used frequently by golf buggies.

At the end there is a choice to detour right to see the NATS Pease Pottage radar station.

Turn left along the drive to Cottesmore School, a fingerpost confirms this is a bridleway.

After the main entrance to the School has been reached, the bridleway becomes an unsurfaced drive to a gate.

On the other side, the bridleway goes between the golf course on the left and a tree boundary on the right.

3. At a metal public bridleway sign go right and under the A264 through a subway.

The bridleway follows Creasey’s Brook before it meets Broadwood Rise.

Stay on the right-hand verge until the junction with Hobbs Road, just before the Crawley Mosque on the left.

Walk up Hobbs Road and enter Target Hill Nature Reserve at the top.

Study the map on the information board by the entrance gate.

It is suggested that an anti-

clockwise circuit is made taking in the viewpoint, although rather overgrown, and re-join the way back to Buchan Country Park by turning right down steps cut into an embankment, just after a dipping pond.

If time is pressing, go ahead on the concrete accessible path.

After the steps a narrow path leads back into Buchan Country Park.

It joins a wider footpath before the footbridge walked over earlier is reached.

Turn right for the information centre and toilets.
