LEWES is traditionally a quiet place.

Lovely and unique in many ways, but essentially quiet.

Well, that won’t be the case on Sunday November 25 when Tot Rockin’ Beats comes to Lewes Town Hall.

The family-friendly, inter-generational party outfit has previously sold out 1000-capacity events in Brighton and Worthing.

Now Dan Flanagan, the man behind Tot Rockin’ Beats, is turning his attention to Lewes.

For three hours, the Town Hall will be transformed into a mini-festival for mums and dads and their children.

There will be 80s and 90s music alongside soft play, Lego, craft area and games with prizes.

Dan said: “It’s raving with a social conscience.

“That’s what hip-hop was originally about when it started in the Bronx in the 1970s – music, art, dance, community – and we stick with that idea.

“Mums and dads can have a glass of wine or a beer and hit the dancefloor with their kids.

“But it’s arranged inclusively so there are activities which engage the children at the same time.

“We have DJs such as club legend Declan Machill, a resident at top London venues back in the late 90s.

“The DJs will get the dancefloor pumping with Farley Jackmaster Funk, Groove Armada, Sister Bliss (Faithless), Steve Lawler and K Klass.”

Dan set up Tot Rockin’ Beats two years ago.

Thirty events later and it’s proved a spectacular success story.

He said: “Not only has it reignited many a tired parent’s love of a good night (afternoon!) out but, as a non-profit organisation, it’s committed to the idea of community.

“Our events have seen older people from sheltered accommodation involved.

“At one party 97-year-old Vera Charlmers wowed the crowd with her DJing.

“The National Lottery and the Arts Council have both recognised our potential with recent successful funding grants.

“There are moves towards special events at venues such as Eastbourne’s Towner Art Gallery and the Brighton Dome.

“We are also planning our own weekend summer festival in 2019.”
