POP star Rod Stewart will return to Sussex in 2019.

Rod the Mod has announced a headline show at the 1st Central County Ground in Hove, the home of Sussex County Cricket Club, on Friday, July 12

Rod’s last performance in Brighton was at the American Express Community Stadium, home of Brighton and Hove Albion, in June of 2014.

There was a touching moment at that gig when he dedicated his song Brighton Beach to his eldest daughter Sarah, who was adopted after she was conceived here.

He also remembered his time waiting outside Roedean school to meet girls “but they didn’t want to know about scruffs like us”.

The latest tour is in support of the release of his 30th studio album Blood Red Roses, released on September 28, which debuted at number 1.

Peter Taylor, director of tour promoter Cuffe and Taylor, said: We are delighted to be adding the Brighton and Hove date to Rod Stewart Live In Concert.

“We have presented numerous shows with him over the past five years.

“Our last visit to the city with Rod was in summer 2014 when he played to a capacity crowd at The Amex so we are looking forward to a great night in this fabulous city once again.

“As his fans know, Rod presents the most amazing shows. He continues to play to huge audiences across the globe and it is an absolute pleasure to once again be taking him across the UK once to reach tens of thousands of people who will have the most incredible night watching him perform live.”

At 73 years old, Rod’s career has spanned nearly sixty years and he shows no signs of slowing up.

The show is set to be a selection of his greatest hits as well as new releases from his last album.

Sussex CEO Rob Andrew said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be welcoming Rod Stewart to the home of Sussex Cricket.

“We are proud to host a number of high-profile concerts at The 1st Central County Ground but it is a first to welcome Rod here. We have no doubt this will be a night to remember and look forward to seeing Rod and his legions of fans.”

Rod Stewart’s 2019 stadium will start as Bristol City’s Ashton Gate Stadium on May 22. The date at the County Ground is the last on the tour, at the present time.

Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday.
