Albion prospects Viktor Gyokeres and Aaron Connolly are vying to become the club’s youngest ever Premier League player.

Both are in contention for a place on the bench when the Seagulls return to action after the international break against Leicester at the Amex on Saturday.

Swedish attacker Gyokeres was an unused substitute for the last outing at Cardiff.

Connolly was also in the party that travelled to Wales but did not make the matchday 18.

Gyokeres took over from Jurgen Locadia, who missed the last-gasp 2-1 defeat through illness.

A question mark has been placed over Locadia’s future by an interview in Holland.

The Dutch striker told De Telegraaf last week he has never had a chance to prove his worth and could move in January, possibly to Spain or Germany.

Gyokeres, who was 20 at the beginning of August, and Connolly, not 19 until the end of January, have both impressed in the under-23s.

Hot-shot Connolly enhanced his claims with a hat-trick for the under-21s in the Checkatrade Trophy at MK Dons last week to add to 12 goals in 14 games for the under-23s.

Gyokeres made his full debut and Connolly featured as a late substitute in the Carabao Cup defeat by Southampton at the Amex in August.

The uncertainty surrounding Locadia has increased their chances of future involvement with the first team.

Albion’s youngest Premier League player is Izzy Brown, now on loan at Leeds.

Brown was 20 and 217 days when making his debut on loan from Chelsea in Albion’s first ever Premier League fixture at home to Manchester City last season before injury cut short his spell.

Albion’s youngest ever top flight player is Gary Stevens. He was just 17 and 169 days when he made his debut against Ipswich in September 1979.
