Here are Brighton's 10 favourite snails as voted by you

AFTER more than 3,500 votes were cast the Sparkle Snail has been named as the city’s most-loved mollusc.

Snail lovers have been voting in droves over the weekend and yesterday in a readers’ poll to crown the favourite model from the city’s Snailspace art trail.

Artist Kim Anderson, 44, whose creation topped the poll, said: “It’s come as a shock as there’s so many lovely ones and they’re all so unique

“I’m blown away to get chosen.

“Sparkle Snail was at the Dyke Road Cafe which was such a beautiful and gorgeous location.”

The snail, which is sponsored by Tower Hill School in Upper Beading, is covered with doodles and glitter.

It received 12 per cent of the vote and has been popular with families in Dyke Road Park.

Ms Anderson said: “Lots of families have visited with their kids which is really lovely.

“The girls from the Tower Hill School took a picture with Sparkle Snail and it nearly made me cry when I saw it.”

Felicity near The Pepper Pot in Tower Road came third and Soraya in Palmeira Square finished in forth.

The city-wide artworks were removed yesterday in preparation for the Martlets auction at the Hilton Metropole on December 3.

They have captured the hearts and minds of the city since they first appeared on September 14.

Imelda Glackin, Martlets CEO, said: “It’s a sad day to see our snails leave the street.

“But we’ve got our farewell event in two weeks time which is the final chance to see all the snails for altogether for one last time.”

The snails are being re-conditioned before a three day event at St Augustine’s Centre, Stanford Avenue, Brighton, starting November 29.

Ms Glackin added: “The auction is the most important part of the campaign as it is where we raise most of the money to fund our life-changing Martlets care.

“It will also be the last chance to see all of the snails before they slide away into their forever homes.
