POLICE have arrested a man on suspicion of robbery after a security lorry was held up outside a bus depot.

The security officer driving it was threatened with an axe by a gang of men riding white Lambretta-style scooters without registration plates in Conway Street, Hove, on Monday at 1.20pm.

Four robbers on the back of two scooters were involved, stealing two boxes of cash from the lorry outside the Brighton and Hove Buses depot.

There have been unconfirmed reports that as much as £25,000 was taken.

The scooters left in the direction of Old Shoreham Road. Police say a 25-year-old man from Brighton was arrested on Monday night and remains in custody.

Detective Inspector Ian Still said the scooters were abandoned in Clermont Terrace in Brighton.

He has now appealed for any motorists who have

dashboard camera footage to come forward.

He said: “We believe these two scooters were stolen during the previous two days.

“One of them was stolen at 12.40pm on Monday from Clifton Street before being used in the robbery less than an hour later.

“We are very keen to hear from anyone who might have seen these two distinctive scooters being driven around the area.

“Any dash-cam footage could be key to our investigation.”

Witnesses or anyone with information should report it on the Sussex Police website or call 101 and quote 572 of 19/11.
