AN ART enthusiast is aiming to share her passion with the masses.

Amelie Collyer, 42, from Worthing, wants to give as many people as possible the chance to learn the craft by opening a community art house in the town centre.

Amélie wants to show that art is for all.

She said: “We would like to make creative activities and art accessible to as many people as possible in the community of Worthing.

“Not everyone can afford creative activities, that is why we will be offering free access for children of low-income families and free opportunities for young carers to enjoy creative freedom and take back a part of their childhood in a safe and inspiring environment.”

Amelie has managed to secure a grant from the Chalk Cliff Trust to fund art material and set up the space.

However, until the art house can be self-sufficient she is asking for help with the day-to-day running.

She has set up a Space Hive fundraiser which hopes to raise more than £16,000

Amelie currently runs a small business, Action Painting Workshops, which encourages creativity and team building among a variety of groups.

She said: “A year ago I decided the share this concept with children and started organising abstract painting workshops during school holidays.

“These have been very successful and lots of children have been inspired to develop their creative ideas when back at home.”

Amelie, a graphic designer, by trade, said she has always had a passion for art and wants to replace an “empty shop” in Worthing with “something colourful, creative and engaging”.

Amelie believes the courses will also help people’s mental health.

She said: “At a time when mental health issues are on the rise in children and happiness and wellbeing are declining, this loss of touch with art and creative activities could be significant.

“Given the reported benefits of creativity, meaningful engagement with the arts is more important than ever.”

Once opened, the workshops will also offer monthly talks, a free library, regular exhibitions and work experience placement for secondary school and college students.
