HUNDREDS joined in a march to protest against street harassment and sexual violence.

Reclaim The Night was organised by music organisation Femrock and the Survivors’ Network.

Some 300 protesters marched from Brighton Station to the Old Steine, holding placards and demanding that women should be able to walk the streets at night without harm.

Organiser Caitlin McCullough, from Femrock, said: “Sexual harassment is an issue that is rife across society, and Brighton and Hove is no different.

“It’s important to have a space to talk about these issues, to make survivors feel safe and heard and to remind the city that change is still needed.

“In the wake of the Me Too movement these issues are more widely acknowledged, which is an important first step, but it needs to be followed up with structural, cultural change.

“Sex workers are disproportionately targeted, generally because it is harder for them to report and to be believed. Until sex work is decriminalised and destigmatised sex workers will remain at higher risk of sexual violence.

“Our ethos at Brighton Reclaim The Night has always been that we welcome people of any and all genders.”

Protesters took to Instagram to explain their reasons for attending the march.
