A YOUNG girl portrays her future as a homeless teenager in a disturbing video released by a housing charity.

Brighton Housing Trust has launched its 2018 Christmas Appeal with the hard-hitting film.

It was made free of charge by Hove-based film production company Big Egg Films.

BHT needs to raise £35,000 this Christmas to provide its services at First Base Day Centre over Christmas and throughout the coming year.

Over the past 12 months, First Base worked with 1,113 clients, 1,089 of whom were rough sleepers.

Through the support at First Base, 222 people were helped into accommodation.

Chief executive Andy Winter said: “You can give someone the gift of a better future this Christmas.

“A £30 donation will mean that each client will receive a warm welcome, hot meals including a delicious Christmas dinner, a chance to shower, freshen up and get clean clothes.

“We will be able to continue to provide laundry facilities, and facilitate the provision of medical treatment, optician and podiatrist services, as well as providing expert help with mental health and addiction problems, and advice on housing, employment and benefits.

“We are always overwhelmed by the generosity of the people of Brighton and Hove and beyond our borders.

“The £35,000 is the minimum we need but if we were able to secure more, we would be able to have an even greater impact.

“I cannot praise Adam Sheldon and his colleagues from Big Egg Films more highly for our 2018 appeal video.

“For the second year running, they have donated their expertise and time to produce the most amazing film.

“Thanks also to Benfield Primary School who loaned us the venue and six of their students, and CMT Performance Coaching performance arts school in Worthing, and the ‘teacher’, Grace Church from Stumble Trip Theatre.

“And finally, special thanks to the star of the film, Lola Berry, who played the part of Millie.”

Donations to BHT’s Better Future Christmas Campaign can be made online at www.justgiving.com/campaign/bhtbetterfuture or by text by sending BASE05 £10 (or any other amount) to 70070.
