A NEW store in The Beacon shopping centre is currently closed.

H&M only opened in the centre in Eastbourne last week but a sign says it is closed until further notice.

It has put a sign in the window saying "it needs to ensure the safety of our customers and colleagues."

The company would not reveal the nature of the health and safety concerns.

But Eastbourne MP Stephen Lloyd said on Facebook: "I’m told there’s a minor structural issue which is being sorted.

"You know what it’s like when you’ve got builders in the house!

"Can always be a challenge to sort, snagging etc, but am sure they’re getting there."

The MP was responding to a comment from Facebook user Emelyne Fleet, who said: "We went down today to have a look round the new shops and were shocked to find H&M closed already with the sign in the window stating it’s until further notice.

"I hope none of the others close as quickly!"

A spokesperson for The Beacon said: “We are sorry for the inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of H&M.

"We are working with the store to re-open it as quickly as possible.”
