EVERY year pub regulars mark Christmas early with a festive celebration.

The Ladies Mile pub in Patcham, Brighton, once again put on an incredible display for residents last night with its Christmas light switch on.

Hundreds of children took part in the fun.

There was a carnival atmosphere with many attractions, including the chance to ride on donkeys.

Father Christmas was in his grotto, there were arts and crafts, fairground rides, and a raffle and auction.

There was also a live nativity and Joe Dellow was the compere and singer.

Landlords Gayle and Paul Newman are in their 15th year of owning the pub in Ladies Mile Road, and have been running Christmas fundraising events for

the past six.

Gayle said: “We do it because it’s something to bring the community together.

“We do a summer fair too but Christmas is definitely our favourite.

“I just think it’s good to do something nice with the community.”

The couple are regular fundraisers and do a lot for charities and people in the area.

Last year they raised money for a defibrillator.

In 2013 the couple were recognised for their fundraising efforts by Brighton Pavilion MP Caroline Lucas.

Gayle said: “We try to do quite a lot to raise money for charity whenever we can.”

Regulars were thrilled with how it went.

One, Tina Daniels, said: “It’s a lovely community event and it’s so good for Patcham.

“It’s the chance for everyone to come together and really have a fun and enjoyable time.

“The fact that it raises money for charity is an added attraction.

“Gayle and Paul do a great job.

“They support the community in every way they can, and that’s to be applauded.”
