A DRIVER was arrested on suspicion of drink driving after crashing in a rural road.
Police were called to the scene near Lewes, where a blue Vauxhall had left the road, hit railings, and ploughed through a hedge backwards.
The wrecked vehicle is pictured above.
PC Gareth Evers was among the officers to respond to the incident, and said they were checking if it had been caused by drink driving.
Last week The Argus reported that in the first 48 hours of a police operation, some 26 drivers had been stopped for drink driving.
It is part of a festive crackdown, where police will name and shame those who are caught putting their own lives and the lives of others at risk.
Officers say 13 people died in Sussex because of drink-driving related incidents last year.
