Southern Rail said: "We have been advised that due to a major accident on the A27 which is one of the main routes between Brighton and Lewes, that our Rail Replacement Buses will be subject to significantly longer journey times due to increased traffic in the surrounding area and diversionary routes in place.
"We are working hard with our Bus Controllers to keep things to time and minimise disruption, however due to the nature of the incident, buses may be subject to different timings as it will take longer to go between stations.
"We thank you for your patience during this time and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause to your journey today."
