THE future of a Pride party in the centre of Brighton is up for debate.

The Pride Village Party has been happening in and around the St James’s Street area of the city for many years.

Up until 2015 the event was not officially organised by the council or by Pride itself.

Instead, visitors independently gathered in the area, attracted by the LGBT bars and clubs.

Since 2015, Pride has organised the party and has worked to manage any disruption by putting on extra security staff, street cleaning and toilets.

It is now a ticketed event which is limited to certain parts of St James’s Street and neighbouring roads.

The council is now seeking the views of residents and businesses on the future of the party, including whether it should continue and where it should take place.

A public consultation runs until January 31.

The responses will be reported to the tourism, development and culture committee in March.

Residents can have their say online or by requesting a paper copy on 01273 292100.
