SHE came, she trained and ultimately she triumphed.

Millions were glued to their television screens on Saturday evening to watch the climax of BBC’s flagship entertainment programme Strictly Come Dancing.

Among the finalists was Brighton’s very own Stacey Dooley who competed with her professional partner Kevin Clifton, who had narrowly missed out on the Glitterball trophy in four finals previously.

Despite performing admirably throughout the competition, things weren’t looking too good for Stacey when she finished bottom of the leaderboard after three dances.

She was up against fellow Sussex resident Joe Sugg, Faye Tozer of Steps fame and former Pussycat Doll Ashley Roberts.

But Stacey endeared herself to the audience and those watching at home as her incredible work ethic saw her improve steadily each week and her routines became ever more complex and impressive.

She looked suitably stunned when, after the inevitable pause for dramatic effect, she was announced as the winner after the public vote.

The highly-respected investigative television journalist is certainly much better known now after participating in and ultimately triumphing in such a high-profile show.

There is little doubt that numerous new work opportunities will come her way in the aftermath of this success and they will be fully deserved.

For now, though, she can bask in the glory of what she has achieved, secure in the knowledge she has proved herself a real star.
