A BIG Lemon Bus driver suffered facial injuries after crashing into a van which was then shunted into another parked car.

Emergency services attended the incident in Ladies Mile Road, Patcham, at about noon yesterday.

Ward councillor of Hollingbury and Patcham, Lee Wares, witnessed the accident while he was on his way to a meeting.

He gave first aid to the bus driver, 35, and called emergency services.

He said: “It happened at about noon. I saw it just a few minutes after it happened and helped the driver.

The Argus:

“When I spoke to the driver and asked if he was OK he said he was, but some of the shattered glass from the bus hit him in the face.

“I looked at his face and saw a small blood spot in his eye so went to the chemist across the road, bought an eye wash and then gave it to the driver to use.

“I understand as a precaution he was taken to the hospital to check he was OK. I think there were about four passengers on the bus but they had got off.

“I called the police at 12.26pm. I had to leave the scene at 1pm to go to a meeting and by that time police, ambulance and a recovery vehicle were there.

The Argus:

“I don’t know how long emergency services were there for, because by 3pm when the school pick up starts there was nothing reported so I’m guessing it was all dealt with within an hour or so.”

A spokeswoman for the Big Lemon Bus company said: “We can confirm the driver from yesterday’s crash is all right.”

A Sussex Police spokeswoman said: "Emergency services were called after The Lemon Bus collided with two parked cars in Ladies Mile Road, Brighton, on Monday at 12.27pm.

"The bus driver, a 35-year-old Brighton man, suffered minor injuries. No one else was injured. The road was closed for 30 minutes."
