A POPULAR nightclub is asking for charity suggestions where they can donate their unused stock.

Shooshh nightclub, in Kings Road, Brighton, has got four freezers full of frozen food.

The manager of the bar, Karl Ryan, is hoping to donate all the food, which was left over from the summer, to a local charity so that it can be donated to those who are most in need over the festive period.

“We trade in the daytime in the summer,” said Karl

“Now that it’s winter we have loads of frozen food left over from the summer months.”

Karl added that they plan to give the fresh food they have in stock to local foodbanks.

But want to ensure that the frozen food does not go to waste and can be used correctly.

He is asking for local charities, who will best know how to store and distribute the frozen goods, to come forward.

That would then ensure that those in need get some much sought after food to see them through the cold winter months.

“The right organisations will be able to do what needs to be done with the food, correctly,” Karl said.

“Some people are worse off than others and at this time of year it’s about helping people out and making sure others do too.”

Richard Merrick, manager of Whitehawk Food Bank, based at St Cuthmans Church, Whitehawk Way, said: “Increasingly, at Christmas, there are pressures on all families.

“With that extra pressure money is not going as far as it normally does.

“Having the kids at home, and not utilising school meals, means families have to provide extra meals, especially at this time of year.

“It is so helpful to see companies doing their part.

“We have big companies, small companies, families.

“Our 12 days of Christmas campaign captured the public’s imagination and the response has been great.”

Richard also spoke about New Year donations and mentioned that the time for giving extends past Christmas.

He said: “There’s a huge drop off in February.

“There’s a lot less food than over the Christmas period, so this festive period at food banks actually stretches to February and March.

“We have donation baskets around the city.

“Their locations can be found on our website, but alternatively they can bring it to us.”

Shooshh can be found in the Kings Road Arches on the seafront.

It advertises itself as Brighton’s only “VIP super nightclub”.

It is open from noon during the summer months.

But it only in the evenings during the winter months.
