GOOD Morning Britain host Piers Morgan lambasted three “militant” vegans for not stopping their families eating meat on Christmas Day.

The 53-year-old also accused the group, Direct Action Everywhere Brighton (DxE Brighton), of being hypocrites for not defending all creatures who die during the production of food.

Mr Morgan referred to the billions of insects that perish in preparation of bread, which he mentioned on Tuesday’s show.

The Argus:

He said on today's programme: “It’s the tactics you use to bully the rest of us into being like you. If you want to eat kale all day I’m happy for you.”

The Sussex-born presenter then repeatedly asked the three members of DxE Brighton if they try to influence their families. He said: “Does your family eat meat?

“Why are you not stomping into their rooms when they are eating their Christmas turkeys and protesting at them?

“So at Christmas lunch you will all be standing there with placards? I admire the passion but my point is your fury about all this is not extended to the little creatures that are killed in the production of bread you love to eat. My argument is you’re hypocrites.”

The Argus:

Vegan activist Dylan replied: “My mother doesn’t eat meat any more and more people are waking up.

“Vegans do have conversations with their own families. Every single day vegans are talking about what’s happened to these animals. What they are facing is a total injustice and the protest we are doing is non-violent.

“We are exposing what is already happening and the tactics that we use are inspired by previous social justice movements, so it’s completely necessary to do this.”

Last month DxE Brighton went to the Touro Steakhouse in West Street, Brighton, where they played noises of animals screaming in front of bewildered diners.

Mr Morgan added: “What happens in the jungle? Animals eat other animals to stay alive. We are doing the same thing as animals do in the jungle to survive.”

The Argus:

The Apprentice contestant Kayode Damali, a vegan, was also on Wednesday morning’s show. He said: “You can’t compare human and animal behaviour.”

Dylan added: “This is not about our survival because we can survive with a vegan diet.

"Animals are being oppressed and being slaughtered and having their bodies abused and cut up. And that’s an unnecessary thing, we have a moral responsibility to do what we can, to reduce that.”
