A SHOW for children visited a book store to perform a special excerpt from the production.

Nellie Limelight and the Oysters of Time is currently showing at Theatre Royal, Brighton until January 2.

To promote the performance, the stars of the show paid a visit to The Book Nook in First Avenue, Hove, to perform a snippet of it for the children of Each Peach Nursery

Throughout the 20-minute performance, which was the first time the show had been taken to an audience, the youngsters were left in hysterics thanks to the lively and energetic displays of the two stars, Florence Leon and Karl Williams.

They also brought along their co-stars, the puppets, which were created by Andy Heath, the mastermind behind puppet designs for the likes of Star Wars and Muppets Most Wanted.

Karl Williams, who plays three characters; Bert, Dame Battie Baubles and Fairy Goodheart, said: “They really enjoyed it. They didn’t seem to be too scared, which was good. I’ve got kids myself so you get to know them, but pitching to other children and seeing how they react is great.”

The show will see the actors come off the stage and take viewers on a tour of the Theatre, with the story progressing as they explore.

“It’s interesting to move the performance,” said Florence, who plays Nellie Limelight. “It’s not a conventional performing space.

“As a result that makes it more edgy and fun for the audience.”

“We move the audience around different locations and different scenes,” Karl adds. “It’s so immersive, it really released different parts of the characters and the scripts.”

The pair took time after their performance to chat to the children in attendance at The Book Nook, in character of course.

Some of the youngsters seemed a little taken aback by the puppets.

But after overcoming their shyness many took the chance to greet them and shake their hands.

Karl and Florence are encouraging children and their parents to come and see their shows. “It’s the show to see because it’s completely different,” Karl says. “It has elements of your standard panto but it’s immersive and the children will get to be involved.”

Nellie Limelight and the Oysters of Time runs until January 2.
