STUDENTS from Lewes Old Grammar School (LOGS) came together in perfect harmony for their annual Advent Carol Concert at Lewes Town Hall.

Two performances were held at 2.30pm and 7.00pm.

More than 100 students and staff took part to raise the roof of this historic building with a diverse mix of festive tunes spanning different musical genres (traditional carols, jazz, rock, pop and show tunes) as well as through musical ages, going back to pieces from the 16th century.

Without doubt this auditory celebration of Christmas past, present and future, appealed to all.

Playing to packed audiences, the joy of Christmas was as tangible as the tinsel that decked the hall.

The programme included a mix of instrumental and voice performed by The Lewes Old Grammar School Orchestra, the Showchoir, Vox and the Staff Choir.

Favourite carols like “In the Bleak Midwinter” and “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” joined forces with enduringly popular pop like Mariah Carey’s hit, “All I want for Christmas is You” and a touch of jazz with “Baby, it’s Cold Outside”.

While the evocative Christmas anthem The Snowman was made even more atmospheric with an instrumental rendition.

In between the festive tunes, audiences were treated to a sprinkling of Christmas readings adding light and shade to the proceedings and time for some seasonal reflection.

The final item featured jazz supremo Claire Martin OBE, the school’s music patron, who performed the ever popular “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” with Srija Ray and Joss Peach.

A retiring collection was taken as a charity donation at the end.
