A SERIAL drink-driver was among those who spent Christmas behind bars as part of a police clampdown.

Police had stopped Piotr Rewicki after receiving call from a concerned member of the public in Chichester earlier this month.

As officers approached, he reversed his grey Opel Astra, causing minimal damage to a police vehicle.

The 60-year-old packer, from Essex Road in Bognor, gave a breath test that showed he was four times over the drink-drive limit, but refused to provide a second sample required by law.

Inside his car officers also found knives and nunchucks. He appeared at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Monday, December 10 where he was jailed for 18 weeks.

Rewicki was charged with failing to provide a breath or blood sample, driving while banned and without insurance, and two charges for possessing two offensive weapons.

He had already been banned from driving until 2021 following previous convictions for drink driving. So he was banned for a further 54 months and ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Police say he was one of 100 drivers stopped by officers over the festive period.

Among them was 23-year-old mechanic Bradley Pickett, of Chiddingly Close in Brighton, who was stopped in Lower Rock Gardens in the city on December 1.

He was charged with driving with 47mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in his system, driving without insurance, driving without a licence and possession of cannabis.

At Brighton Magistrates' Court he was banned from driving for three years and ordered to pay a £506 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Bognor electric wholesaler Jamie Hanson, 24, of Elm Tree Close, was arrested in Highcroft Crescent, on December 1.

He was charged with driving with 49mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in his system. The legal limit is 35mcg per 100ml.

At Worthing Magistrates' Court he was banned for 14 months, fined £500, and told to pay £85 costs and a £50 victim surcharge.

Manzambi Adoph, 34, of Burstead Close in Brighton, was arrested on December 2.

The cleaner was charged with driving with 44mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in his system.

At Brighton Magistrates' Court he was banned for a year and fined £230, along with £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Retired Alastair Johnson, 68, of Springfield Road in Horsham, was arrested in Albion Road in the town on December 2.

Police said he was more than treble the drink drive limit with 123mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in his system.

At Crawley Magistrates' Court he was banned for 30 months and ordered to complete 240 hours of unpaid work, along with a £50 fine.

Taxi driver Rachel Cooney, 40, of Castle Road in Broadbridge Heath, was arrested in Five Oaks Road, Slinfold, on December 2 and charged with driving with 133mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in her system.

At Crawley Magistrates’ Court on 18 December, she was banned for three years and ordered to carry out 250 hours of unpaid work. She was also ordered to pay a £85 victim surcharge.

Worthing painter Michael Mueller, 36, of Browning Road, was arrested in Brighton Road in Shoreham on December 2.

He was more than four-times the legal limit,  with 157mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in his system.

At Worthing Magistrates' Court he was given an 18-week suspended prison sentence, a three-year driving ban, and 200 hours of unpaid work.

He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Ashton Dyer, a 48-year-old mechanic from Elm Place, Rustington, was charged with driving with 45mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in his system on December 7.

At Worthing Magistrates' Court he was banned for a year and ordered to pay a £431 fine, £85 costs and a £43 victim surcharge.

Ringmer-based chef Nicholas Hall, 44, of Craig Meadows, was charged with driving with 110mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in his system on December 7.

At Brighton Magistrates' Court he was banned for 23 months and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £85 victim surcharge.

Richard Marriott, 36, of Torcross Close in Brighton was stopped by police in Richmond Place in the city on December 8.

He was found to be more than double the limit with 78mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in his system.

At Brighton Magistrates' Court he was banned for 17 months and told to pay a £120 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Police stopped 51-year-old teacher Tracey Mackeddie, in Freshfield Road in Brighton on December 8.

Mackeddie, of Foxdown Road in Brighton, was charged with driving with 86mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in her system.

She was banned 17 months, fined £120, and told to pay £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Adrian Danis, 28, from Southall Avenue in Brighton, was arrested in Old Shoreham Road in Brighton on December 12.

He was charged with driving with 66mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in his system and driving without insurance.

At Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 27 December, he was banned for 17 months. He was also ordered to pay a £720 fine, £85 costs and a £36 victim surcharge.

Unemployed Ella Pecko, 28, of no fixed address, was stopped in Broyle Road in Worthing on December 15. She failed to provide a breath test.

At Crawley Magistrates’ Court on 17 December, she was banned for 16 months. She was also ordered to pay a £200 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Finally Lauryn Power, 63, unemployed, of Reef Way in Hailsham, was arrested in Vicarage Field in the town on December 15.

She was charged with driving with 101mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in her system and driving while banned.

At Hastings Magistrates’ Court on December 21, she was given a 12-week suspended prison sentence. She was also banned for three years.
