A SIGN to help visitors find shops and hotels is directing people out to sea.

The Kemp Town heritage sign is at the junction of Lower Rock Gardens and Marine Parade on Brighton seafront.

One part of it, which is supposed to be directing vistors towards the shops and hotels in St James’s Street, is currently pointing south and out to sea.

The problem was noticed by an eagle-eyed resident on Thursday and has been reported to Brighton and Hove City Council.

Another part of the sign, which is supposed to be pointing to Kemp Town, is actually pointing slightly north of the area.

The sign, pictured right, is placed in an area of the city which has many hostels, hotels and B&Bs and is popular with visitors.

It is unclear how many – if any- have suffered as a result of the confusion.
