TRIBUTES have been paid to a tragic teenager who died at a railway station before Christmas.

The 18-year-old boy was struck by a train at Preston Park station shortly after 6am on December 23.

Paramedics and British Transport Police officers were called, but the teenager was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

He has been named locally as Carl Klimaytys from Crawley. His family have been informed.

On social media, his friends have expressed their shock at the news, with one saying: “He is my best friend, and always will be.”

His death is not being treated as suspicious, and a report is being prepared for the coroner.

A statement from British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Preston Park station at 6.04am on 23 December after reports of a person being struck by a train.

“Colleagues from the ambulance service also attended, however, a 18-year-old man, from Crawley, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. HIs family has been informed.

“This incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.”
