A TAP dancer has become a world champion and taken home a hoard of medals from an international dance event.

Former Mile Oak Primary School pupil Chloe-Rose Hodges won the gold medal in the trio section at the International Dance Organisation’s World Tap Dance Championships 2018.

These took place in Riesa, Germany.

She also won a bronze medal in the small group section of the tournament, as part of a team of six.

Chloe-Rose is also a former pupil of Downlands Community School in Hassocks and trained as a dancer at Portslade School of Dance and Drusilla Dance Theatre School in Burgess Hill.

She competed as part of Tap Attack, who fill the Team GB Tap Dance Team.

Tap Attack is a tap dance company made up of dancers from across the UK aged between ten and 20.

All dancers undergo a rigorous audition process to get into the company, and then again for selection for the team.

The company took a squad of 49 dancers to the tournament, which had nearly 1,400 dancers from 19 countries taking part.

Team GB’s head coach and Guinness world record breaking tap dancer Jo Scanlan said: “This year the standard of the competition was at its highest we have ever seen during the ten years we have represented the country at this event, every country just gets stronger each year.

“We knew this year was going to be a tough year, but our dancers fought their way through the rounds and achieved exceptional results.

“The team have been very successful over the past few years and returning to the World Championships as the reigning champions brings extra pressure and intense competition.”

Chloe-Rose’s medals contributed to a total of five gold medals, three silver medals and four bronze medals for Team GB at the championships.

The team also defended world titles from last year’s competition by winning gold in the adult small group, adult trio and junior duo.

The dancers were able to share the podium with their team mates as another of Team GB’s adult small group won a bronze medal and another of their junior duos won a silver.
