A QUIET residential street was cordoned off by police after a ‘knife’ incident.

Police swooped in to Mill Drive in Hove on Thursday night after reports of a disturbance nearby.

From 6pm they had taped off a 50-yard stretch near the junction with Edward Avenue.

There have been unconfirmed reports of a stabbing.

One resident, who did not wish to be named, said: “I came out for a run at around 6pm. The area was cordoned off with police cars around the corner.

“There were three or four police cars down the road. On the floor outside there was smashed glass and a knife.

“You don’t think anything like this would happen here. There has never been an incident like it before.

“The forensics officers were here until 9pm or 10pm taking photographs and doing what they had to do.”

A dog walker said he had heard about an arrest at a pub a short distance away. He said: “It is very worrying something like that could happen here, it is usually a quiet area.”

A police presence remained at the junction of Edward Avenue and Goldstone Crescent yesterday morning.

In a nearby garage there was a smashed up car just yards from where the glass had been seen on the street.

Another resident said she had recently seen a terrifying horror film, and then returned home to find the police presence on her doorstep.

She said: “There were crowds of people outside looking at what was happening, and the police set up the cordon that we could not get through.”
