RESIDENTS are being promised a chance to have their say on the next stage of the Brighton Marina development.

Updated designs for phases 2 and 3 of the outer harbour development will be revealed on Wednesday at a public consultation exhibition held at the Malmaison hotel in the marina from 4pm to 8pm.

Conservation and residents groups were invited to view initial draft proposals in November. All feedback was collated and given to the design team to inform the development of more detailed plans.

A spokeswoman said: “The updated designs for Brighton Marina outer harbour reflect our commitment to creating high quality, new private and affordable homes targeted to the UK market, specifically those who live and work in Brighton.

“Response to the earlier plans, exhibited in November, was positive.

“Local residents were pleased to see our designs showed an increase in public space, more pedestrian walkways, new green squares and crescents suited to the marine environment and an architectural style that is more in keeping with Brighton and Hove’s Georgian townhouses.”

The proposal includes approximately 950 apartments, with a mix of one, two and three bedroom homes, including affordable homes.

The spokeswoman said: “A tower has been retained from the previous planning consent to serve as a beacon within the new community, but has been reduced in height significantly, bringing it down from 40 storeys to 28.

“The new homes within the development will make an important contribution to meeting the need for new housing in Brighton and Hove, where demand from all income levels has consistently outstripped supply.

“The high quality homes, which have access to private and publicly accessible gardens, are designed to be affordable for individuals, couples and families living and working in Brighton.

“Our vision is to create housing and public spaces which set a benchmark for the future development of Brighton Marina.

“We intend to deliver high quality apartments as well as the amenities and infrastructure necessary to make a genuine and balanced community flourish.”

For those unable to attend, the proposals will be available to view and comment from Thursday to January 24 at www.outerharbourdevelopment.co.uk
