A MAN and a woman were stabbed after men entered a house and stole jewellery.

The raid happened in Goldstone Crescent in Hove on Thursday night.

Police swooped in and set up a cordon around the area, including in Mill Drive around the corner, while forensics officers investigated a knife and broken glass at the scene.

The attackers had entered the house, demanding money from those inside before driving off in a small dark blue Volkswagen or Audi.

A 22-year-old man in the property suffered a stab wound to his leg, while a 26-year-old woman sustained a cut to the back of her head.

Both were taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital for treatment, and were later discharged.

Police officers taped off a 50-yard stretch of Mill Drive and Edward Avenue after the stabbing.

One resident, who did not wish to be named, said: “I came out for a run at around 6pm. The area was cordoned off with police cars around the corner.

“There were three or four police cars down the road. On the floor outside there was smashed glass and a knife.

“You don’t think anything like this would happen here. There has never been an incident like it before.

“The forensics officers were here until 9pm or 10pm taking photographs and doing what they had to do.”

A dog walker said he had heard about an arrest at a pub a short distance away. He said: “It is very worrying something like that could happen here, it is a quiet area.”

A police presence remained at the junction of Edward Avenue and Goldstone Crescent on Friday morning.

In a nearby garage there was a smashed up car just yards from where the glass had been seen on the street.

Another resident said she had recently seen a terrifying horror film, and then returned home to find the police presence on her doorstep.

She said: “There were crowds of people outside looking at what was happening, and the police set up the cordon that we could not get through.”

In a statement, the police said: “We were called at 5.20pm on Thursday to a house in Goldstone Crescent in Hove.

“Two men were reported to have entered the address, they demanded money and assaulted two occupants before running off with stolen jewellery.

“They got into a small dark blue or black VW or Audi car, which is believed had a broken rear nearside passenger window.”
