A BABY died 24 hours after his birth, an inquest heard yesterday.
Iver Wainwright was born at about 8pm on November 17 at the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath.
The next day he was transferred to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton where he died at 8.16pm.
The inquest into his death was opened and adjourned yesterday. His mother and father, Katherina and William Wainwright, from Haywards Heath, did not attend the hearing in Brighton.
Mrs Wainwright had a normal pregnancy but the court was told Iver was stillborn and there were extensive resuscitation attempts to save him. Despite all efforts he died about 24 hours later.
Coroner Veronica Hamilton Deeley said: “There was foetal distress, a recognised delay in response to the birth and the mother clearly had difficulty in understanding the registrar on what to do.”
The inquest was adjourned until a later date.
