AN Albion fan has been banned for five matches after posting "offensive" comments on social media.
The Seagulls supporter - who has not been named - made the comments about former West Brom striker Cyrille Regis after the FA Cup fourth-round draw.
The club said it received a number of complaints about the supporter's post on Monday evening.
The Seagulls will play West Brom in late January after defeating Bournemouth 3-1.
The comments were removed and the supporter has apologised.
Mr Regis was a striker for West Brom and he died last January at 59.
Albion said in a statement: "Brighton and Hove Albion have issued a five-match ban to a supporter, in light of offensive comments made on social media on Monday evening, deliberately designed to cause offence.
"Following an investigation by the club, the individual concerned had already withdrawn the comments and has now apologised for the offence caused.
"They have also been warned to expect a more severe punishment should they breach club rules in future."
