A SLOTH is sticking to his New Year’s resolution to lose weight.
Sophocles is a resident of Drusillas Park, near Alfriston, and needs to cut down his diet to obtain a svelte new physique.
But, he is going to have to cut down on his favourite hobbies, napping and eating corn, to do so.
Zoo animal manager Mark Kenward said: “Sophocles is a healthy weight and in great condition, but I am conscious that his strong appetite can sometimes get the better of him.”
The sloth is part of the animal park’s close encounter team, meaning visitors can meet him and feed him vegetables.
Mr Kenward said: “I will be keeping a close eye on his greedy appetite throughout 2019 to make sure he’s not consuming more calories than he’s burning off.”
