There were all kinds of activities going on 20 years ago – and The Argus was on hand to capture them. Looking back to that time we find some war evacuees, brave sailors and a boy who has somehow got his hands on a massive box of soap powder. Do you recognise any of them?
A group of sailors took up the daunting task of sailing from Brighton to Greece – the journey would take six weeks.
Pupils from Templars First School in Sompting dressed up as evacuees for a school project.
This includes Georgie Munday, 8, Becky Lyons, 7, and Harley Green, 7, dressed as 1940s’ evacuees
Next up is Simon Woodgate, a songwriter and record producer from Hailsham, along with his co-writer Denise Roberts
Simon has used his song writing and record producing skills to work with Sony for artists such as Steps and Adam Rickitt
David Shorter, 10, from Patcham, was the lucky winner of a giant box of soap powder – though we are unclear what the competition was all about
