As part of a new series Jamie Walker will be looking behind the curtain at some of the favourite venues in Sussex to see what makes them tick. This week he talks to Lauren Morley, sales and marketing manager at Horsham Capitol.

What makes the Horsham Capitol such a great venue for live entertainment?

Comfortable fixed theatre seats and a broad programme of shows to choose from

What do you think it offers that other venues in the area may not?

A close-up experience of artists who sometimes play bigger venues, where they’re more of a dot in the distance.

Beautiful art deco features add to the atmosphere too.

Have there been any particular highlights for yourself in terms of visits to the Capitol?

Seeing Nigel Kennedy, Joan Armatrading and musical theatre star Ramin Karimloo who’s back with us early in 2019.

In terms of live shows, who does the Capitol appeal to?

At Horsham Capitol we pride ourselves on the fact that there’s something for everyone.

Comedians from Sara Pascoe, Nish Kumar and Joe Pasquale as well as appearances from Jason Donovan, Michael Parkinson, Kate Humble and Hazel O’Connor have all visited us in 2018 and we look forward to welcoming even more acts to our theatre in 2019.

What makes Horsham such a great town for live entertainment?

Having The Capitol helps to make Horsham a destination of choice for a good night out. We’re looking forward to the Horsham District Year of Culture in 2019.

Why is the The Capitol the venue to come to?

An intimate auditorium where everyone gets a great view, coupled with an £80,000 sound system in the theatre, plus a choice of at least two films every day in our cinema screens.

Julian Clary

Wednesday, March 13

In his outrageously camp new show, Julian Clary will be baring his soul like never before in the hopes of entertaining the audience.

He’ll be putting his own spin on some famous songs - and hopefully not murdering them in the process - telling witty anecdotes and give a sneak peak at his new memoir.

Steeleye Span

Thursday, April 18

Even after 50 years, Steeleye Span are still proving popular with their Sixties folk-rock.

Led by Maddy Prior, the group will be marking half a century on stage by delving into their rich and varied back catalogue.

Their music may not have changed a whole lot over the last 50 years but this seven-piece still never fail to surprise with their live shows.

Midge Ure

Wednesday, April 24

Over the course of an evening Midge Ure will be looking over his 40 year career in the form of songs and stories.

With a range of music on offer that will tell the story of his career, Midge will also infuse some anecdotes from what he has experienced over the course of four decades.

Ed Byrne

Thursday, November 7

Ed Byrne is one of the UK’s finest touring comedians and always provides riotous laughs wherever he goes.

In his new show, “If I;m Honest...”, Ed takes a look inside himself to review his personality traits and whether they are worth passing on.

His sense of humour definitely is.
