ZOE Ball has received a positive response from radio listeners for her first breakfast show.

She began her role as BBC Radio 2’s first female weekday breakfast host by playing Aretha Franklin’s Respect as her first song just after 6.30am this morning.

Despite following the “giant footsteps” of Chris Evans as she describes it, the show flowed with enthusiasm, keeping the early morning risers tuned in.

Her team includes Richie Anderson on travel, Mike Williams on sport, weather with Carol Kirkwood, news with Tina Daheley and a daily Pause For Thought.

Fan Rachel Reilly tweeted: “Chris who? Well done @ZoeTheBall amazing first show with amazing music and you even have @TinaDaheley yes. Gutted I have to get out my car and stop listening but work call.”

Another fan, Liz Rossall tweeted: “Love your energy this morning.

“Great 1st show and wanted to listen more #ZoeBall @BBCRadio2. Started my Monday energised.”

Zoe Ball has replaced Chris Evans as the presenter of Radio 2’s popular Breakfast Show while Evans prepares to take over the same slot at Virgin Radio next week.
