YOUNG learners on training programmes have been recognised for their work.

A special celebration event took place in Brighton to recognise the achievements of 16 to 24-year-olds on Skills Training UK’s courses.

Certificates and awards were presented to 26 young learners for their progress towards achieving their career goals.

Skills Training UK’s training centre is at Tower Point, Brighton.

It offers young people an opportunity to achieve vocational qualifications, improve their English and maths skills and gain work experience with a local or national employer.

Tutors also support learners with CV and interview skills so that they are ready for their next step, such as an apprenticeship, full-time job or further education.

Trained mental health first aiders also provide one-to-one mentoring and advice workshops for learners needing additional support.

Graham Clarke, director of education and social mobility at Skills Training UK, said: “Congratulations to the brilliant learners at our Brighton Centre for all making positive progress on our traineeship programmes.

“Many of these young people arrived at Skills Training UK with low confidence, few or no qualifications, and some have faced challenging circumstances in their personal lives.

“However, in a short space of time and through the support of our tutors, it is inspiring to see how they have overcome obstacles to succeed and take their first step on the career ladder.

“We wish them all the best for the future.”

Robin Chilton, 22, was presented with the Outstanding Achievement Award after working hard to complete his studies to a high level.

Siana York, 18, Kristian Szmytkowski, 19, and Harry Hipgrave, 18, all achieved a work experience award.

They completed a four-week work placement with the Cavendish Hotel in Eastbourne, where they have all since secured a full-time job.

Chloe Guino, 18, received an award for excellent progress and Malick John, 17, was awarded for best attendance.

Certificates were also presented to employers, Jobcentre Plus, community projects and other agencies in recognition of their partnerships with Skills Training UK.
