FOUR BMWs were broken into on Sunday night and had their steering wheels stolen.

One driver from Adelaide Crescent in Hove, who asked not to be named, said he woke up to find the steering wheel missing from his car.

He said: “I would not be surprised if there were a lot more victims to this crime because when I put a call to Chandlers garage in Brighton another eight BMW owners had called in with the same issue.

“I reckon BMWs are the target because the wheels can be removed quite easily.

“I have actually read a couple of articles about this crime and it does seem to be an issue across the country.”

Councillor Robert Nemeth said: “I was incredibly interested to see what happened so I could share the information with residents in the area.

“I feel bad for the owners of the vehicles and I hope the police can crack on and find the person responsible

“I heard there were reports at Leiceseter Villas, Adelaide Cresent and in Southwick.”

A Sussex police spokesman said: “We received reports that four parked BMWs have been broken into overnight between Sunday and Monday in Adelaide Crescent, Brunswick Place, Arundel Street and Denmark Villas, all Hove, and had their steering wheels stolen.”
