A DRINK driver drove across a grass roundabout on his way home from a Christmas party.

Ben Sindall was more than twice the legal limit when his Vauxhall Vivaro was discovered damaged close to Robin Hood Roundabout on the A24 at Horsham on December 15.

Police found that damage had been caused to the roundabout signs leaving a large amount of oil and debris on the road.

Sindall identified himself as the driver and fully admitted to being in no fit state to drive.

He said he intended to get a taxi home but instead chose to drive, and instead of going around the roundabout he had driven straight over it.

The 37-year-old carpet fitter, of Shelley Road, Horsham, was charged with driving with 91mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in his system. The legal limit is 35mcg.

He was disqualified from driving for 23 months and sentenced to a 12-month community order, requiring him to do 80 hours of unpaid work at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on January 3. He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.
