THERE are severe delays on the A27 after a crash broke the traffic lights.

The traffic lights were broken late yesterday morning during a crash between a van and a car.

The AA website warned drivers to expect delays of 16 minutes on the A27 Polegate By Pass.

It said that there was queueing traffic for more than a mile as a result of temporary traffic lights on the A2270.

These lights have been put in place while the broken lights are repaired.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “We were called at 11.44am to High Street in Polegate.

“One of the drivers was taken to Eastbourne District General Hospital.

“A set of traffic lights were also involved in the collision."

The delays are between the A22, Golden Jubilee Roundabout, and the A22 Polegate Road, Cop Hall Roundabout.

Some drivers took to social media to share their experiences of the delays.

One Twitter user said: "Don't even try and leave Eastbourne this morning.

"A journey that should take me approximately 20 minutes is taking me an hour."
