A PANTOMIME broke new records in 2018.

Worthing Theatres has announced that this year’s winter show made the most money of any panto.

Aladdin ran at the Worthing Pavilion Theatre from November 30 to January 1 and saw more than 30,000 ticket sales over its one month run.

The show brought in 6.5 per cent more revenue to the theatre than the 2017 show - Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

It also means that show sales at Worthing Theatres have seen a 51 per cent increase since the last time Aladdin visited Worthing in 2014.

This past year saw Steps singer Lee Latchford-Evans take the leading role of Aladdin.

He was joined by Cbeebies presenter Rebecca Keatley who played Jasmine and award-nominated comedian Vikki Stoke who took on the role of the male antagonist Abanazar.

Amanda O’ Reilly, head of culture for Worthing Theatres, said: “We’re very proud to provide our patrons with an unforgettable experience at our pantomime year after year, and these remarkable sales reflect how our Christmas production has become a well-established and special family tradition over the festive period.

“This significant growth represents how we have cemented ourselves as one of the biggest pantomimes in Sussex, and our next magical production of Cinderella promises to enchant adults and children alike.”

Pantomime Producer Paul Holman said: “Following the phenomenal popularity of Aladdin, we are delighted to continue our collaboration with Worthing Theatres in 2019 and look forward to bringing a spectacular production of Cinderella to the Pavilion Theatre this Christmas.

“Audiences can expect ever more magical special effects, the highest quality production values and an exciting star line-up to be announced soon along with plenty of the audience participation for all ages that Worthing’s traditional family pantomime is renowned for.”

Tickets are already on sale for the winter 2019 production on Cinderella.

The show will run from November 29 until January 5.
