A WOMAN who failed her driving test six times has written a manual to help others pass.

Sarah Diallo finally got her licence on the seventh attempt.

The 23-year-old, from Worthing, started learning when she was 18.

Now Sarah, who has more than 1,300 subscribers on YouTube, has made a video about passing her test – and it has already been watched 19,000 times.

She said the success prompted her want to write a booklet.

Sarah said: “I wanted to give voice to my experience.

“I realised that I was not the only one going through this – as I had once thought – and I was helping people.

“I received so many emails and questions and I just thought this would be a great thing for learner drivers to read.”

Because she went to university in Leicester, Sarah took her test there five times, once in Mitcham and then finally passed it in Lancing.

She said it was important for learner drivers to know “it is OK not to pass your test the first time”.

She said: “I think it is very important for people to know that it is possible for you to pass even if it feels as though you won’t.

“I didn’t pick it up quickly at all.

“Most of the time I was actually scared of driving and it felt like such a terrifying thing for me.

“I was surprised that I could actually move the car and stop it in my first few lessons.

“The fact that I stopped and started between uni had a backsliding effect on my progress.

“Some people will pass first time, others may take two or more times.

“There is no point comparing or pressuring yourself.

“At first I’d always say third time lucky.

“I would say I had to pass that time but that’s not a healthy mindset to have – it adds way too much pressure and disappointment.”

Her tips include:

l Work out a plan that will suit you better, try to find alternatives and talk to those who are close to you

l You will find a resolution because if someone as ditsy as me has passed, you can definitely do it too

l I would definitely advise that if you have a family car in the house to get insured on that car.

Sarah has been posting videos on YouTube for three years, focusing on her passions of fashion, travel and lifestyle. She said: “When I have a vision of how something is going to look and I am able to capture that vision, or even surpass it, it is a great feeling.

“I also love when my content really relates or speaks to people and can help them in some way.”

Her manual “Take The L” is free to read online and she hopes it will also be in local bookstores and libraries soon.

Sarah said: “It is important to offer the booklet free as that will allow more people to have access to it.”

The booklet was made in partnership with Fixers, a charity which supports young people to “make positive changes”.
