A GAS board worker was nearly four times over the drink-driving limit when he reversed into a pedestrian.

Mark Reynierse was arrested in Station Road in Bognor while on his way to pick up a pizza.

The 43-year-old told police he had downed at least three double vodka and colas at his home in the afternoon before driving at 4pm.

Police found that he had 132 microgrammes (mcg) of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath in his system. The legal limit is 35mcg per 100ml.

The police said: “He stated he had consumed at least three double vodka and cokes at home during the afternoon, before he decided to drive to Dominos in Station Road to collect pizza.

“As he attempted to reverse park his white Fiat Doblo he his a pedestrian, who fell to the floor and suffered back and hip injuries.”

He appeared at Worthing Magistrates’ Court where he was banned from driving for three years and sentenced to a 12-week suspended prison sentence.

Magistrates also ordered Reynierse, of Hatherleigh Close in Bognor, to complete 180 hours of unpaid work and pay £85 court costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

He was one of 240 people arrested during the crackdown on drink and drug drivers over the festive period.

Among them was 43-year-old carpenter Scott Dean, who was found to be double the legal limit when he was stopped in Fox Hill, Haywards Heath.

Dean, of Bodiam Avenue in Brighton, was more than double the legal limit with 78mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in his system.

At Crawley Magistrates' Court he was banned for 17 months and ordered to pay a £500 fine, £85 court costs, and a £50 victim surcharge.

Meanwhile 31-year-old banker Leanne Perkins was arrested in Charles Purley Way in Bognor in December.

She had 44mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in her system.

Magistrates at Worthing fined Perkins, of Timberleys in Littlehampton, was fined £249 and banned for a year . She must also pay £85 court costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
