AN ART exhibition with a difference takes people on tours of graffiti.

Brighton has a longstanding association with street art.

It is rare to go round a corner without seeing a building, wall or street furniture – such as electric and utility boxes –covered in artwork.

From Banksy to Cassette Lord, all kinds of street artists have showed off their talents on the city’s streets.

There are giant murals, tributes to football stars and musicians and scenes of complete fantasy – you just need to know how to find them.

Now, an art gallery has decided to make it easier than ever.

Artrepublic, in Bond Street, is offering guided tours of the city’s best street art.

Run by a local artist known as Req, the walks will take in some of the finest creations by street artists.

Acushla Bennett, gallery director at Artrepublic, said: “It’s something different to do.

“There are plenty of typical tourist attractions in Brighton but this is a way to see more of the city.

“We wanted to bring street art back as a community focus because it’s something Brighton is known for.

“I think it’s good to get the back story and information about these pieces of art.

“To get context and stories about the artists, that’s

what brings the community back.”

Req has strong connections to the city’s art scene and provides history about pieces of art that others may not know.

The tour also fits with the mantra that Artrepublic has tried to establish in the city.

Acushla said: “Our whole thing is that art is for everyone to enjoy and that’s exactly the concept with street art.

“That is our ethos.”

The tours run throughout the year so there are plenty of opportunities to go.

The next walking tour of street art in Brighton takes place on Sunday.

Tickets cost £20 per person (plus booking fees) and each booking comes with a free £10 gift voucher for Artrepublic and two free drinks.
