A TWO-DAY beer festival is taking over The Old Market in Hove this weekend.

Drinkers will get the chance to sample craft beers and ales from Brighton-based brewers and tap-rooms, alongside beers from around the UK.

This is the first time a beer festival has been held at the venue, better known for hosting theatre events and gigs.

Andy O’Connor, marketing officer, said: “The building was originally used as a market place and we wanted to pay tribute to that, and take it back to its roots. We’re planning an Oktoberfest vibe with benches set around the main room so people can move around and have a drink.”

Pop-up food stalls at the event include local Wolfsmouth who will provide tacos, and there will be live music from Amber Burgoyne, Hot Rock Pilgrims and DJ Levitate.

There will be a token system for beers once inside the main hall, so people can move around freely. Another bar will provide a limited range of drinks for people who aren’t keen on beer.

For those who like their hops, Holler, Brighton Bier, and the award-winning Franklins from Sussex, are a couple of the local beers on offer this weekend.

There will be two admissions on Saturday and Sunday between 12.30pm and 4.30pm and 6pm and 10pm. Tickets are £10 in advance or £8 on the door and include a free festival glass.
