AN ELECTRICIAN, a shop manager, and a carpenter were among those who have been named and shamed in court for drink driving.

Police launched Operation Dragonfly over the festive period from December to January, where 240 motorists were arrested on suspicion of being intoxicated behind the wheel in Sussex.

Brighton electrician Barry Williams was stopped near his home in The Brow in Brighton on Boxing Day.

The 44-year-old tested positive for 48 microgrammes (mcg) of alcohol per 100 millilitres (ml) of breath in his system. The legal limit is 35mcg per 100ml.

At Brighton Magistrates’ Court he was banned from driving for a year, and ordered to pay a £115 fine, £85 costs, and a £30 victim surcharge.

Eastbourne carpenter Cameron Hesling was stopped in Shepham Lane in Polegate earlier in December.

He also tested positive for 48mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in his system.

Magistrates banned the 18-year-old, of Alverstone Close in Eastbourne, for a year. He was also ordered to pay a £318 fine, £85 court costs, and a £31 victim surcharge.

Meanwhile Steven Cumper, from Lingfield in Surrey, was stopped in East Grinstead on December 7.The 37-year-old failed to provide a breath or blood sample while suspected of having driven while under the influence.

At Crawley Magistrates’ Court he was banned for two and a half years and ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work. He must also pay £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Shop manager Niranjan Thapa was stopped near his home in Ghyllside Avenue in Hastings and charged with driving while unfit through drink.

Hastings magistrates banned him for 17 months and ordered him to complete 150 hours of unpaid work. He must also pay a £133 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Finally care assistant Gale Strudwick, 49, was arrested near hear home in Sherborne Road, Chichester, on December 15. She had 115mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in her system. She was banned for two years and four months and must pay a £276 fine, £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge.
